Alex is a skilful coach & mentor having enabled many individuals to acquire skills & knowledge as well as developing their confidence & ability to address future challenges once the coaching has finished. Alex coaches in person in both the UK and mainland Europe, and via Skype across Northern Europe.
Before embarking on his freelance career in 2013, Alex was the Head of Coaching & Mentoring for the Welsh Government, leading on initiatives throughout the Public Sector in Wales.
Alex works with managers and other staff members who wish to improve the impact that they have at work and to overcome challenges to achieve their best. Alex uses a mentoring and coaching approach to develop relationships built on trust within which he challenges and supports individuals to make lasting changes.
Recent successful interventions have included coaching two NHS managers through a significant re-organisation, coaching a Local Authority manager facing significant changes in the workplace and coaching a Third Sector Housing practitioner towards career progression.
Alex has recently been busy delivering the Coaching for Performance training programme to managers in Arla Foods (Europe’s largest Dairy) & delivering 360 degree coaching feedback to senior managers in Pepperl+Fuchs (Europe’s largest Industrial Supplier).
Alex undertook a number of key roles and secondments with the Welsh Government. Alex was the lead trainer for the Welsh Government Change Management training programme, delivering the Managing Change Successfully suite of courses to Public Service organisations. Alex also led groups of Organisational Development practitioners through a year-long development programme which culminated in OD Consultancy within a range of organisations.
Alex is also a trained Mediator with over 15 years of practice experience, Alex has helped many individuals & organisations to overcome disputes & achieve sustainable solutions.
Alex works throughout Europe designing and delivering training events and workshops on a wide range of subjects including leadership, management and soft skills such as communication and building relationships.
Alex provides transformational coaching and training programmes, including the ILM / CMI accredited levels 3, 5 and 7 courses and 1 – 3 day Coaching for Performance programmes (non-accredited skills-based courses for Managers).
Alex draws from his own experiences of leading teams successfully, and a wealth of knowledge accrued over 25 years of public, private and third sector operational and management experience. Alex is an avid reader and always on the look-out for the latest thinking in fields such as Applied Psychology, and Leadership Development.
Alex regularly delivers Facilitation Skills courses. He facilitates Action Learning Sets, Team Building events and Senior Leadership off-site conferences.
Alex is a published author – his latest article on the subject of Confirmation Bias was the lead article in the May, 2016 edition of Professional Social Work magazine. He has also had articles on Coaching and Workplace Mentoring published in professional journals.
Since 2001, Alex has lectured at Swansea University (College of Human & Health Science). His ongoing contribution was recognised in January 2014 when he was made an Honorary Lecturer. He currently teaches at under-graduate and post-graduate (BSc. and MSc.) levels. He also teaches at the Summer University.
