    Professional / Life experience
    My professional practice extends across Europe, Asia and Australia. I have 40 years’ intense experience in bringing out the best in people through coaching – from young people ‘at risk’ in deprived areas to NATO leaders, Boards of Directors and senior executives, building site managers and staff, college students, schools, and women experiencing the glass ceiling (I first coined the term ‘sticky floor’ where people are holding themselves back). One client was able to cut 8 of 55 staff with no loss of productivity. Another became no 1 rated of 24 sister companies under the wing of a national blue chip corp. And I have myself won a national ‘Best Small Business’ award. Life experience? I love competitive team sport, and crew regularly on a racing yacht. In the past I was a curler (skip), played rugby union, and any other sport that came along. I work out with a personal trainer each week. I’m proud father to two adult women, and now I’m a granddad as well. I’ve lived on 4 continents and have dual nationality (UK and Australia). I’ve lived a bit!
    My clients
    NATO: I was NATO’s sole leadership trainer and coach for its management and administrative base [NAMSA] in Luxembourg from 2001 – 2010. I worked with a wide range of Programmes, Branches and Sections in tailoring and coaching specific success strategies for senior leaders, individuals, teams and businesses. NAMSA clients included Finance, Engineering, Logistics, Personnel/HR, Information Systems and Corporate Planning divisions. Through delivering courses such as ‘Leadership & Management’, ‘Managing Change’ and ‘Managing Time & Pressure for Peak Performance’ I built up unparalleled awareness of the challenges facing staff and managers across the Agency while building bridges across functional boundaries. I also designed, implemented, analysed and reported back a staff survey on leadership effectiveness for the Engineering Division. I then helped the leadership team to make changes in the way it managed the business, resulting in a big improvement in employee engagement and motivation. The Construction & Design Industry: As well as coaching people up to and including Board level in ‘blue-chip’ companies including Taylor Wimpey and Bellway Homes in the UK I helped to develop benchmarks for high quality site teamwork, an appraisal and personal development planning system, inter-departmental training for future Board of Directors members, and training for emerging managers. These companies experienced significant results in customer satisfaction, target achievement and profitability through increased skill, capacity and commitment. Unwanted staff turnover reduced, and succession planning and talent management brought a range of benefits. In 2008/09 the industry started to face massive challenges due to wider economic factors and it is heartening that those I have worked with seemed much better prepared to survive these challenges. I also acted as the business coach for a group of Construction & Design companies under the umbrella of the “InHouse Group 3” network in Australia from 2009 -13. Since 2014 I’ve been advising a property startup, SUCH Developments [Sustainable Urban Community Homes] based in Sydney. The first SUCH projects should hit the ground (literally!) in 2018. Hong Kong Key projects have included: Charter Member of TiE Hong Kong and founder member of Metta, mentoring start-ups and young entrepreneurs and leading workshops on coaching and mentoring for mentors. Marshall Goldsmith Executive Coaching Various projects in developing coaching skills, systems and mindset in the education sector. For example, building a Personal & Professional Development system reflecting a school that aspires to develop an coaching culture at every level; designing selection principles and techniques for an ESF school (KGV); Researching the effectiveness of coaching in the same school; Consulting for the Head of Continuing Professional Development in the ESF Developing online video-based courses in coaching and leadership skills Australia Clients included Nestle, Soprano Design, the Urban Integration Working Group, State Street Corporation, Eastern Suburbs Business Enterprise Council, InHouse Group 3 (the network for the construction & design industry in Sydney), Women on Boards Ltd, Business Masterminds (as a Master Facilitator), the Sydney Business Networking Group, Business Connector Pty Ltd, McCann Worldwide, Invivo, BDO, Caltex, the Australian Women’s Exchange, and the One At a Time Foundation.
